LAUSD offers free preparation courses and testing for the High School Equivalency Certificate (HSE). A High School Equivalency Certificate (HSE) is an alternative to a traditional high school diploma that demonstrates a candidate has the same knowledge and skills as a high school graduate.

Cost of the Test

The cost of the High School Equivalency Test is $150 for Computer Based Testing or $185 for Paper Based Testing. The fee is due at the time you register. If you are retaking any section of the test, you will need to pay $30 per section for Computer Based Testing or $35 per section for Paper Based Testing.

Computer Based Testing is Available!

The HiSET® exam is now available on computer at our main test center located in downtown Los Angeles, at the Rinaldi Adult Center Equivalency Test Center and twelve other sites in Los Angeles.

When you take the test on the computer you will know your unofficial score right away for four sections of the test. The essay takes a couple of extra days to score. You will be able to see your scores in about 5 business days after completing the last section of the test. You should receive an email form Parchment within 10 days of passing your test with an electronic transcript and certificate.

If you are interested in taking the test on computer, follow the steps below:

Be sure to make a note of your ETS#. We will need it to schedule your appointment.

Transcript/Certificate Verification

To request a document verification or replacement copy, please use the options below. Only the test taker can initiate a CDE search. Federal law prohibits CDE staff from discussing test taker information with 3rd party requestors.

For copy requests of your traditional high school diploma or transcript, please contact the authorizing school or district. For convenience, the California School Directory can be used to locate contact information.

For copy requests of your GED certificate or transcript taken from July 1, 1990 to present, please call 888-906-4031 or visit the GED web site.
